Powder Protection - Powders with Extras

Posted by on 27 February 2024

Architectural Grade powder coating is beautiful, tough, durable and available in interior and exterior grade formulations.

So far, so good.

Yet many people don’t realize the other functionalities that can be added to powder. Check out some of the other “super powers” powder can bring to your project:

Anti-Graffiti

Removing unwanted graffiti is challenging, time consuming and expensive. Both interior and exterior grade powders can be formulated with anti-graffiti capabilities, which aid in the removal of unwanted graffiti from metal surfaces. The IFS R&D team has formulated anti-graffiti powder coatings to ease the removal of graffiti using common solvents, which still delivering great durability, chemical and stain resistance.  Perfect for applications like  Public transport & public transit areas, Signage, playground and recreational equipment, restroom structures and Doors, Grills and roller doors to name but a few!

Anti-Microbial

Most IFS powder paint coatings can be formulated with anti-microbial capability. These clever coatings use silver ions to help inhibit the growth of mildew and spoilage causing microbes on the powder coating.

The IFS Anti-Microbial powders are treated with silver ions, which inhibit the growth of cellular enzymes on the coating in the presence of moisture. Perfect for interior applications like hospitals, bathrooms, labs, schools and child care facilities, the coating will retain its anti-microbial product protection over time. IFS powders with anti-microbial treatment are available in colors and clear coats.

Heat Resistant Powders

IFS heat resistant powders work to withstand elevated temperatures without losing gloss, discoloring, cracking, or losing adhesion. Using heat resistant silicone resins, these powders ensure that when exposed to elevated temperatures, the powder will continue to adhere, will not crack or delaminate, and will maintain color and gloss.

ESD

IFS ESD powder coatings are designed to dissipate a static charge that can cause damage to sensitive electrical components. Available in a range of chemistries and colors, the product is formulated to provide a surface resistivity of 104 – 1011 Ohms. Problems caused by electrostatic discharge are usually found in the electronics industry where products can suffer damage if they are subjected to an electrostatic charge. As few as 100 volts is enough to damage an electronic component, so utilizing electro dissipative powder coatings can help add a protective film. Generally used for interior products, applications include electronic enclosures, cabinets, computer work stations, server casings, shelving, robot components and more. With so much reliance on the electrical items themselves, ensuring the safe, continued, dependable performance of electronic equipment is essential. IFS ESD Coatings can offer a cost effective solution.

What else is possible?

We have so many other clever formulations available to help you deliver a gorgeous finish with the functionality you need to provide extra protection. Designing a high touch/high use area? Think about powder coatings with additional scratch and mar protection built in. Don’t want to see fingerprints? Ask about fingerprint free formulations. Looking for NSF powders? We have NSF 51 and NSF 61 formulations.
